My Fall Fashion Goal: Wear More Hats

There are certain things that I dislike about the fall. I hate all of the rain, the longer periods of darkness and the end of daylight savings time. However, I love football, warm beverages, and the red, orange and yellow leaves on the trees. Autumn has its pros and cons but one thing I look forward to in the fall is…FASHION. You have so much to play with– coats, sweaters, boots, hats, scarves, wraps, capes, belts, and gloves just to name a few.

I love hats! I think Americans don’t wear them nearly enough.

But let’s talk about hats. I love hats! I think Americans don’t wear them nearly enough. That is outside of baseball caps. That’s why I love to see British Royals at their events. The ladies always wear fabulous hats or fascinators. I also love to watch the Kentucky Derby. That seems to be one of the few times that American women dare to wear dressy hats.

Of course, African American women still wear hats to church but not nearly as much as they used to when I was growing up. My grandmother was a milliner and made beautiful hats. She was the first lady of our church and even taught the women in our church and neighboring churches how to make hats. I rarely saw my grandma without her head covered. During the week she was typically in a beret or tam as we called it then. For church she wore very ornate hats with feathers, rhinestones, veils and/or satin. So hat wearing is in my blood but I haven’t been true to my roots. I’ve decided that I’m going to make a goal to wear more hats. Last year I bought two cute, fall floppy hats and didn’t wear either of them. This year I don’t want them collecting dust in my closet. I will be sporting them along with the many hats I picked up at Target last week. They had so many cute hats in various colors and patterns. I’ve got a hat for every occasion. I’m going to have a lot of fun.

Sometimes you can throw on a hat and go from humdrum to *finger snap* FABULOUS!

If you’re not wearing hats, why don’t you join me. They are so versatile. Hats can get you through a bad hair day, shelter you from the rain, shield you from the sun, or just add a little needed flair. Sometimes you can throw on a hat and go from humdrum to *finger snap* FABULOUS! Be on the lookout for my hat photo diary on Instagram. 🙂 Tag me when you post a pic of yourself in your hat.
